The Scotland Reducing Gambling Harm programme (SRGH) at the Health and Social Care Alliance Scotland (the ALLIANCE) would like to invite you to a Roundtable event on gambling marketing and advertising.
UK advertising regulations on gambling are far more liberal than other countries in Europe, yet we produce more evidence on how advertising gambling to people causes harm.
Every year, £1.5 billion is spent on gambling adverts in the UK – advertising that young people in Scotland are regularly exposed to through digital, tv, radio, and on our streets.
The oversaturation of gambling advertising normalises and promotes gambling as an ‘everyday activity’ in the lives of people, families, and communities in Scotland, obscuring the harm gambling causes. This ultimately directs blame on the individuals experiencing harm, rather than on the industry that profits from it.
Together we will use this event to explore how we can best use our collective voice to reduce and regulate gambling advertising in Scotland and use this space to learn about the challenges and opportunities from similar public health campaigns.
Everyone
deserves a life free from gambling harm.
