As you walk through the streets of Handsworth, our knowledgeable guides will share stories and anecdotes about the area's significant role in shaping Birmingham's black community. You'll learn about influential figures such as Muhammad Ali, who once visited Handsworth, and hear about how this vibrant neighbourhood has evolved over time. Immerse yourself in the sights, sounds, and flavours of Handsworth while paying homage to one of the world's greatest leaders.

We aim to: 

·         Reveal the missing narrative of the Black History of Birmingham

  •  To identify the African, Caribbean, Black-American and Black-British influence that has had a social, cultural and economic impact on the heritage of Birmingham

  •  To acknowledge the international links that Birmingham has with Activists, Politicians and the social reforms that this has generated


The Fee for the walks is

Suitable clothing

Although the routes are not strenuous, please be aware that surfaces may be uneven and could be slippery when wet. We strongly recommend that you dress appropriately for the weather with warm/waterproof clothing and comfortable footwear.

For your safety

Please take care when crossing busy roads and always use the designated crossings where indicated. Please be aware of other road users and pedestrians, particularly by leaving space on pavements for people to cross safely.

How to Get Here

By Road

Soho House is located 1 mile north west from Birmingham City Centre. For google maps and Sat Nav use postcode B18 5LB. Soho Avenue is off the Soho Road (A41). There is a free car park at Soho House. 

By Bus

From Birmingham City Centre use bus number 74 (alight at Rose Hill Road bus stop). Bus service is operated by National Express West Midlands .

By Metro

The closest metro stop is Benson Road (10 minute walk away). Walk along Benson Road, carry on straight over the roundabout onto Factory Road. Continue straight onto St Michael's Hill and onto St Michael's Road.  Turn right onto Soho Avenue which is off St Michael’s Road. Soho House is on the right. Metro service is operated by National Express Midland Metro .
