Equiano and the Enlightenment
Join this walk to learn about the life of Olaudah Equiano and his association with the Lunar Society. Equiano, a former slave, published a memoir describing the terrible, unjustifiable wrongs that happened while he was enslaved.
This walk focuses on the British biases towards African Culture, Birmingham’s link to the transatlantic slave trade and the contradiction and hypocrisy of Birmingham’s facilitation of the Enlightenment.
This walk is designed and delivered by Black Heritage Walks Network.
We aim to:
• To document migration stories and achievements of the black community in the UK, in particular, the post-war African Caribbean community.
• To inform and educate local communities about the contribution of the black community within the UK
• To encourage tourism within the highlighted places of interest
