We are delighted to welcome Dr Malica Willie our January JMS Network Event hosted by JMS Scholar, Steveen Ulysse!
Educated at the University of the West Indies (UWI), Cave Hill Campus in Barbados, and the University of Liège (ULiège) in Belgium, Dr Willie is a Saint Lucian creative writer and researcher, who is Lecturer in Black British and African Diasporic Literature in the School of Critical Studies at Glasgow.
Her creative work consistently depicts Caribbean cultures, and engages with issues of race, sexuality, disability, abuse, female empowerment, nature and so much more. Her most recent creative works are ‘Blue Shoes,’ a short story published earlier this year in Small Axe, and ‘Matrilineal Inheritance,’ a non-fiction piece in volume 39 of The Caribbean Writer, due to come out in 2025.
Dr Willie’s research interests are thematically linked to her creative work. Her focus is interdisciplinary, and intersects race, slavery, philosophy, disability studies, psychoanalysis and African diasporic Literature.

Step-free access
There is step-free access to Level 2, the publicly accessible ground floor.
Toilets
Accessible and ambulant toilets are available throughout the building, as are gender neutral toilets. There is a Changing Places toilet located on Level 1, the lower ground floor; please ask at reception for support.
Baby Feeding and Changing
Baby feeding and changing facilities are available on Level 2. This includes access to a fridge, microwave, bottle warmer and sink.
Assistance dogs
You’re welcome to bring along your assistance dogs. Water bowls can be provided at Reception.
Blue Badge parking and drop off
The closest Blue Badge parking bay is located on University Place. Please contact ARCEnquiries@glasgow.ac.uk should you need to arrange accessible drop-off and parking immediately next to the ARC
