What you need to know

We are super excited to be teaming up with United in Paranormal at the stunning location that is Gwrych Castle for Halloween 2024 'By day, Gwrych Castle cuts an elegant but eerie figure against the landscape with its mix of towers, turrets and ornate windows. By night, unexplained sights and sounds are said to emanate from within the castle walls. Spine-tingling screams, ominous shadows and heavy footsteps when no one is there are just some of the unnerving occurrences reported by unwitting guests and staff over the years. Apparitions drifting along the battlements, spectral orbs floating through the towers and ghostly faces peering from windows reveal this castle’s creepy occupants—lost souls trapped between this world and the next.' (historiesandcastles.com) Once the set for Im A Celebrity through the Covid Pandemic, many staff and guests reported unusual and terrifying activity on set. built in the early 1800s, the castle has years of history and many owners. Do they still walk the long corridors and stairways?

Accessibility

The majority of the main building is currently a ruin so there is currently no public access.

The Castle was built into a hill, subsequently the terrain is uneven with many steps, slopes and steep footpaths throughout the estate. Sensible footwear is recommended at all times. Many of the footpaths along our standard visitor route are unsuitable for wheelchairs.

We have an accessible route for disabled visitors, please make us aware if you require disabled parking and our accessible route so we can advise you accordingly. This route will avoid the steps, but does include a slope leading to Stable Court which can be tiring for a person assisting. The gardens and the Chapel are both accessed via steps so are not accessible to wheelchair users.

As Gwrych Castle is over two hundred years old, substantially ruinous and Grade I listed, we are afraid we are not permitted to alter any part to make it more accessible at present.

Getting there:

Public Transport: The nearest train station is Abergele and Pensarn. Nearest bus stop is on Llanddulas Road opposite Eldon Drive. The bus services that regularly visit are number’s 12, 13 and 21. This bus stop is immediately outside the main entrance to the castle.

Sat Nav: Please be aware that if using ‘sat nav’ you will arrive near but not at Gwrych Castle. Please ensure that you read the local directions provided or plan your journey prior to your visit.

From the A547, look out for the exit for Tan y Gopa Road and immediately turn right onto the drive to Gwrych Castle. Pass under a very large stone arch with two large round towers and drive up the drive to enter the Gwrych Castle Estate. Continue past Manorafon Farm and the golf club along the drive for around half a mile.

There is an all weather car park on site, but please be aware there is a 300m walk on an incline to get to the castle courtyard. Upon arriving at Gwrych Castle, please make us aware at the Visitors Centre if you require disabled access so we can advise you accordingly.
