This event examines authenticity, visibility and children’s rights through a lens of the representation(s) and reception of children in professional theatre and dance. It will be held in person at the Institut Francais d'Ecosse, central Edinburgh, 1300-1630, Friday 30th May.
Curated by PhD researchers - each allied to high-profile Scottish arts organisations - we draw on expertise from our own empirical research as well as UK and international experts in this field involved in both academia and performance. Presented during - and with the support of - the renowned annual Edinburgh International Children’s Festival (est. 1989), it offers a unique opportunity for doctoral researchers to engage with industry professionals as we join the main event with Festival Delegates in the afternoon.
The event comprises a lunch and soft start with fellow researchers, moving to a short panel of 5 invited speakers, then a relaxed and mixed accessible discussion workshops around the themes raised, finishing with informal chats and connections over refreshments.
Open to researchers in any allied field, connected to SGSAH HEIs in Scotland. Subsidy available for travel booked in advance, for SGSAH funded researchers. Full details will be emailed to you upon booking.
