Quest
Founded by Rabbi Louis Jacobs, the journal Quest, as it was in the 1960s, existed to reflect the age’s “tensions, problems, ideas and achievements.” Although today we are faced with a very different set of circumstances, the imperative to interrogate those circumstances remains unchanged.
Revived by siblings Chloe and Max Julius, the inaugural theme is exile, a state of being in which growing numbers of people are living: from homelands, from communities, from ideas, from idealised versions of themselves. Its many forms – even those that are self-imposed– imply compulsion and bereavement. Highlights include: written contributions from Rachel Lichtenstein, Daniel Finkelstein, Zahavit Shalev and Hannah Weisfeld; artwork by Lisa Gornick, Ella Baron and Anya Broidou; and an interview with artist Yishay Garbasz.
