Tuesday, November 7, 2023
Jesmond and Sandyford, Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom

What you need to know

Newcastle has many pedestrian underpasses and this walking tour explores six of them (in Jesmond and Sandyford). It considers people's attitudes towards them, people's experiences of them and their design and management.

This tour is part one of the ESRC Festival of Science event 'Experiencing and improving public spaces' hosted by Ian Cook and Clare Wiper (Northumbria University).

If you have any queries about the event contact ian.cook@northumbria.ac.uk

This tour is followed by a creative workshop on public space, which you are welcome to join (and requires separate booking). Click here for details and registration.

Location

Jesmond and Sandyford
Newcastle upon Tyne, Tyne and Wear,  United Kingdom

The meeting point is the gates at the southern entrance of Exhibition Park, by the Claremont Road roundabout and skatepark. The meeting point is a five-minute walk from Eldon Square and Haymarket bus stations.

In terms of accessibility, the underpasses have sloped access (allowing wheelchair usage). We will ensure that everyone is comfortable with the pace.
