What you need to know

Our combined RYA Day Skipper Theory and Practical course is very popular, allowing you to combine two 5-day courses into one 9-day course, saving you time and money. The first 4 days covers the theory syllabus, taught in our dedicated classroom in the marina, followed by the practical element which is usually held on one of our new Oceanis 37 sailing yachts.  Some of the theory modules (such as using a chart plotter) are taught on the boat in a practical situation rather than using a classroom simulator, and with the theory syllabus still fresh in your mind as you step on board, this combined course provides a great learning experience and helps you to retain the theory for longer.

Saturday - following Sunday Format:

You will meet your fellow crew and instructor in the classroom at 9.30am on the first day (Saturday). There are 4 days of classroom based theory to cover the syllabus, so you can expect subsequent days to run from 8am - 6pm usually with some homework on a couple of evenings.

On Tuesday evening you will move onto the boat, ready to set sail on Wednesday morning. The next 5 days will be spent exploring the Solent. The route you take and the ports you visit will be weather dependent - and part of the course will cover appropriate route planning.

You will return about 3.30pm on the final Sunday. So you can cover a 9 day course with only 5 mid-week working days required!
