Many skippers understandably feel nervous about parking the boat or leaving the pontoon for the first time. Especially in the Solent - well known for it's strong tides, huge tidal range (especially on Springs) and it's popularity, all of which make mooring more challenging.

You can build your confidence in manoeuvring a yacht in close quarters with our boat handling days. During the day you will practice parking in and leaving finger pontoons, learn how to set spring lines as well as mooring alongside, and picking up mooring buoys. You'll also learn how to ferry glide and other great tips for parking in those tricky spots!

We run these courses in the busy Port Hamble Marina designed to make the situations as challenging as possible. So after the course, you will know if you can park here - you can park anywhere!

This course is ideal for Day Skippers and above, considering a bareboat yacht charter, planning a flotilla holiday or as essential preparation ahead of the RYA Coastal Skipper or RYA/MCA Yachtmaster exam.

Format of the Day

The course will be run from our Port Hamble Marina base, usually on a Beneteau Oceanis 37. There will be a maximum of 4 crew to 1 instructor on board, so you will have plenty of time on the helm. Course meet 8.45am. You will moor up for a lunch break and finish about 5pm.

What's included

A full day of manoeuvring, all mooring fees, instructor and packed lunch on board. Waterproofs available to hire (£30)

RYA Day Skipper certificate preferred.
