What you need to know

The next SMLC Film Club screening will take place on Wednesday 3rd December. We will show God Help The Girl, a (musical) drama written and directed by Stuart Murdoch, of Glasgow band Belle & Sebastian.    God Help The Girl premiered at the 2014 Sundance film festival, and won a World Cinema Dramatic Special Jury Award there. It was also nominated for a Crystal Bear at the 2014 Berlinale.

This month's film was suggested by Stephan Ehrig. Below is some further info provided by Stephan:

"Counterintuitively, this film will not take you to another country or another language area but very much to the neighbourhood you are in right now - Glasgow's West End! Stuart Murdoch's (of Belle and Sebastian fame who are returning to Glasgow next summer for their 30th anniversary tour) millennial musical follows Eve (Emily Browning) who escapes a mental facility to explore Glasgow's music scene. On her way, she meets clumsy musician James (Olly Alexander) and together with posh schoolgirl Cassie (Hannah Murray) they decide to form their own band.
The film explores a wonderful hipster fantasy version of Glasgow that is as charming as it is narratively off the rails as the real one, so join in for catchy songs and location spotting (as well as finding Prof Matt Brennan from Music in the band!)."

The screening will take place as usual in 42 Bute Gardens Lecture Theatre 718.
