What you need to know

SMLC Film Club is back for 25/26!
Our first screening of the academic year will take place on Wednesday 15th October: we will show the historical drama Agora (2009), directed by Alejandro Amenábar (known for The Others  (2001)  & The Sea Inside (2004)) and starring Rachel Weisz.

More info about the film below from Jason Ho, who suggested the film:

"As a migrant teacher arriving at Scotland on a humanitarian cause, I've chosen this film to spark a conversation about xenophobia and in/out groups in this world of constant racial/ethnic, religious, social, cultural and political conflicts. Set in Roman Egypt, the story follows a slave who finds hope for freedom in faith, all while grappling with his love for his mistress, the philosopher and mathematician Hypatia of Alexandria. The film offers a powerful lens through which to examine timeless issues of identity, faith, and belonging. Let's delve into these themes together.🍿-- Jason Ho (EAS Lecturer)"

The screening will take place in our usual venue, 42 Bute Gardens Lecture Theatre 718.
