What you need to know

The Nebit Challenge is a fundraising hill walk organised by the Rotary Club of Alloa, taking participants from Alva into the beautiful Ochil Hills to the beacon on The Nebit.

Join us on Sunday 31st May 2026 for a fun, well-supported community event with fantastic views across Clackmannanshire and beyond.

This event is open to:

  • Individual walkers looking for a great local challenge
  • Families wanting a fun day out in the Ochils
  • Clubs and larger groups (Guides, Scouts, sports teams, youth groups, community organisations, workplaces, etc.)
Fundraising / sponsorship

The Nebit Challenge is a great opportunity for groups to take part and raise sponsorship money for their own club, group or chosen charity, while the Rotary Club of Alloa provides the organisation, route and support on the day.

Route details
  • To the beacon and return is approximately 2 miles (3.5 kilometres – 250m of ascent)
  • Route including the summit is approximately 3.5 miles (5.5 kilometres – 400m of ascent)
  • A rewarding walk with big views at the top
  • Many participants choose to complete their event by continuing to the summit of The Nebit (449m).  This option will be available if the organisers consider the conditions on the day to be suitable when participants reach the beacon.
Entry

There is a small entry fee to help cover event running costs.

Registration
  • All walkers or groups need to be booked in advance
  • Participants should arrive and register half an hour before the time they intend to start, and may start their walk any time between 9:30 and 11:00
  • Doors open at 9am
  • Clearly signposted route and marshals on the course
  • Food and drink stall available at the start/finish area for walkers to purchase a well-earned refuel
What you’ll need
  • Suitable outdoor footwear (walking boots or sturdy trainers)
  • Weather-appropriate clothing (it can be windy on the hill)
  • Water/snacks
Important notes
  • Participants take part at their own risk
  • Children must be accompanied by a responsible adult
  • Each individual walker collect a participant wristband at reception before starting the walk
  • All walkers MUST check back in at the Start/Finish line even if you do not complete the event
  • Please check the weather forecast and come prepared

By car

Alva is easy to reach from the main road network:

From Alloa: approx. 10–15 minutes

From Stirling: approx. 25 minutes

From Perth: approx. 40 minutes

From Edinburgh / Glasgow: approx. 1 hour (traffic dependent)

Please follow event signage / steward directions on arrival.
Parking is limited so car sharing is encouraged where possible.

By public transport

The nearest public transport links are in Alloa.
From Alloa you can reach Alva via local buses / taxis.
Participants travelling by public transport should allow extra time for connections.

Accessibility information

The Nebit Challenge is a hill walk in open countryside and includes:

  • steep uphill sections
  • uneven ground / rocky paths
  • narrow trails
  • potential mud and slippery surfaces depending on weather

Because of this, the route is not suitable for wheelchairs, mobility scooters, or most pushchairs/buggies.
