What you need to know

EVENT CANCELLATION. We are really sorry to announce that due to unforeseen circumstances we have had to cancel this event. We hope to reschedule it for next year and please keep an eye on our socials and website so you can join us next time! Our full programme of events can be viewed here: https://canva.link/lived-living-experience-hub-programme-of-events

For this Hub Event, we're excited to be hosting one of our collaborators, the Mariwala Health Initiative (MHI). MHI provides grants and strategic support to organizations and collectives working within communities across India to provide greater access to mental health services for all. By fostering an environment of accessible, affirmative, rights-based and user-centric mental healthcare, MHI seeks to visibilise narratives in mental health that centres structural determinants and foreground voices of historically marginalised communities.

About this event

Historically marginalized groups like queer and trans communities experience suicidality, suicide, and suicide loss within the context of oppressive heteronormative and cisnormative systems. Dominant suicide prevention paradigms, such as means restriction, psy-focused support, and individual/internal 'resilience'-building largely fail to account for the structural violence experienced by queer & trans persons. Survival through such systemic violence has been possible thanks to untiring community work and mutual aid over time.

Mariwala Health Initiative, a mental health and suicide prevention advocacy, capacity-building, and funding organization in India launched the Community Connect Fund (CCF) in 2024. CCF supports queer-trans collectives in Tier 2 & 3 Indian cities to continue carrying out their critical work of asserting queer-trans rights; peer support; crisis work; visbilizing and affirming lived realities. In this webinar, Raj will discuss learnings from the CCF and visibilizing the work of queer-trans collectives in India as impactful on suicide prevention, and how such work establishes and augments pathways to liveability. This will be followed by a 30 minute Q&A.
