A discussion with Marco Benatar
We are delighted to invite you to our next GCILS event on the International Law as a Profession series, with Marco Benatar, Legal Officer at the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea (ITLOS).

About
Marco Benatar is a Legal Officer at the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea (ITLOS) (previously Associate Legal Officer) and affiliated researcher at the Free University of Brussels (VUB). Before joining the Tribunal, he was a research fellow at the Max Planck Institute Luxembourg for Procedural Law. He holds an MA from the Free University of Brussels (VUB) and an LL.M. from New York University.
Marco has given lectures at a number of universities and international institutions, including the United Nations Office of Legal Affairs (Division for Ocean Affairs and the Law of the Sea), the IMO International Maritime Law Institute, and the International Foundation for the Law of the Sea Summer Academy. In addition to conducting consultancy work for governments and intergovernmental organizations, Marco’s past work experience includes advising parties in cases before ITLOS and inter-state arbitral tribunals. Currently, he serves in the editorial and scientific advisory boards of, inter alia, the Max Planck Encyclopedia of International Procedural Law, the Revue belge de droit international, and the Military Law and the Law of War Review.
