Lovelace-Hodgkin Symposium on AI Ethics

Wednesday, October 2, 2024 – Friday, October 4, 2024

What you need to know

Welcome to the Lovelace-Hodgkin Symposium on AI Ethics, taking place from 2nd to 4th October 2024 at the Advanced Research Centre (ARC) at the University of Glasgow. Our aim is to prompt insightful discussions towards shaping a more ethical and inclusive future for artificial intelligence (AI) and in doing so produce actionable recommendations and a collaborative vision for an ethical framework in AI. Whether you join us in person at the ARC or participate online, we look forward to meeting you!

Our vision is rooted in the belief that AI should not exacerbate existing societal inequalities but rather serve as a tool for positive change and community building. We envision a future where AI is developed, deployed and governed in a manner that prioritises fairness, inclusion and social good. Through interdisciplinary collaboration and the sharing of diverse perspectives, we aspire to create a framework that guides ethical AI development within academic institutions and broader society.

The Symposium will facilitate information sharing with experts in AI, policy making, ethics, education, communication and inclusion, as well as minority groups directly affected by AI inequality. Presentations will be blended with practical workshops and panel discussions, with the aim to make the event engaging and stimulating, and allow all attendees to be part of the co-creation of actionable outcomes.
