Celebrating 850 Years of Innovation & Imagination

Glasgow has given the world television, ultrasound, Irn Bru, raincoats, legendary artists, and groundbreaking ideas. Now it’s your turn.

To mark the city’s 850th anniversary, we’re inviting students to take part in the World-Changing Glasgow Games Jam — a celebration of creativity, risk-taking, and bold new visions.

🕹️ Your Mission:
Create a physical or digital game or gaming concept that captures the spirit of Glasgow — daring, diverse, and full of heart. Your creation should display:

  • Originality & Creativity
  • Diversity 
  • Empathy      
  • And be Fun! 

🎯 Choose Your Theme:

  • Glasgow 850 – Draw inspiration from an event across Glasgow’s vibrant history
  • Future Inventions – What do you think Glasgow can be famous for next?
  • Food and Drink – Respond to the culinary delicacies of the contemporary city
  • People Make Glasgow – Explore the cultural legacy of the diverse people that make Glasgow
  • Four Seasons in a Day – Explore the impact of climate change on life in the city

The entries will be judged by our panel of experts:


Lauren Bergin, News Editor of PCGamesN

Dr Matthew Barr, Senior Lecturer, Computing Science

Dr Timothy Peacock, Lecturer in History and War Studies, Director Games and Gaming Lab

Judging will take place on 5th November. 

 

There is a prize of £500 for the winning team. With 2nd and 3rd prizes of £100 per team each.


How will the World-Changing Glasgow Games Jam work?


1. We will start with a 2-hour workshop on Monday 20th October (1-3pm), in the Williams Room, McIntyre Building (SRC).

What will you need to bring to the event? – enthusiasm and a desire to get involved 

What will you get out of it? – become part of a participating team in the competition; get ideas on how to create effective games; have fun; meet students from across the University 

 You can come as team of up to 5, or you can come as an individual and will be assigned to a team on the day.

2. You will work together to come up with an idea/concept for either a physical or digital game. 

3. Your team submit your game.

When will you need to submit your game or game concept? - You and your team will need to submit your game or game concept by noon on 5th November.

We accept two types of entry - Best Playable Game; Best Game Concept

4. Your team should come and display/ play the game/concept on 6th November from 5pm.

You should have a look at the other games and discuss the concept with other teams.

The prize-ceremony will be between 5.30 - 6.30 pm on 6th November. At least one member of the team will need to attend to (maybe) collect the prize.
