Summary:  Prof Heather Ferguson FRSE will provide an overview of her career researching the biology and control of the mosquitoes that spread malaria and other vector-borne diseases of profound public health impact in the Global South. She will reflect on her experience as a first generation academic; and how that has shaped her approach to inclusive research. Highlighting examples and lessons learned from working in close partnership with researchers and communities in malaria endemic countries in Africa, she will highlight how diverse, inclusive international teams can work together to address barriers that hinder progress in Global Health.  The talk will emphasize the importance of advocacy to champion and increase Equality, Diversity and Inclusion in academia both within the UK and internationally, and the power that all of us have to make positive change.
