This is an in-person event for UofG Staff only. A valid UofG Staff email address is required to book your ticket.
Join us in person for the MVLS Black History Month Gallery and Networking Session to learn about this exciting project.
Dr Shaun Bremner-Hart (School of Molecular Biosciences), will be available to discuss a unique collection of comic posters co-created with Dr Reece Sodhi, Senior Lecturer at the University of Sunderland.
This innovative, cross-disciplinary project explores how visual storytelling can be used to promote equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) and support efforts to decolonise the curriculum. Developed in partnership with students, the gallery brings together perspectives from science, medicine, psychology and beyond to challenge traditional narratives and shine a light on individuals whose contributions have often been overlooked or marginalised.
The posters feature inspiring figures including Mary Seacole, Inez Beverly Prosser, Harold Moody, James McCune Smith and Henrietta Lacks, encouraging reflection on representation, identity, power and belonging within knowledge production. Through the creative use of comics and visual pedagogy, the project presents complex social and historical issues in an accessible and engaging way.
This networking event offers a fantastic opportunity to view the gallery and learn more about the project.
