Frequently Asked Questions

What if my child is shy or nervous?
Its completely normal for children to feel a little unsure at first. Our team gently supports new arrivals to help them settle in and build confidence. Theres no expectation to take part in everything straight away – children are free to join in at a pace that feels right for them. To help them feel more comfortable from the start, we also share one-page profiles of the staff leading each day, so children can get to know who theyll be spending time with in advance.

What will happen if it rains?

We aim to go outside whatever the weather, so please check the forecast and provide appropriate clothing for rain. Some of our activities will take place in our education centre or in our impressive iron age roundhouse!

Can my child attend if they are neurodivergent or SEND?
We aim to provide a welcoming and inclusive environment for all children and our team has experience supporting neurodivergent young people and those with SEND. Our staff will do their best to support every child attending Go Wild, however, please note that we are not able to provide individual 1:1 support for children with additional needs. If your child needs additional support, please email our Go Wild leader (kate.oliver@carymoor.org.uk) so we can discuss whether Go Wild is the right fit for your child.

Location

Carymoor Environmental Centre
Dimmer Lane, Castle Cary, Somerset, BA7 7NR United Kingdom

Directions to Carymoor: The post code for the Carymoor Environmental Centre is BA7 7NR and here is a Google map of the location. The Centre is based next to the landfill site and Waste Transfer Station at Dimmer near Castle Cary and we share the same main gate for our access. Coming off the B3153 on to Dimmer Lane, you’ll see a sign for the Dimmer landfill site and Recycling Centre. Follow this road until you come to a farm on a left hand bend and turn immediately right. You’ll see the signs here for the Dimmer site and for Carymoor. At the end of this road you’ll pass the recycling centre on your right and come to some traffic lights at the main gate of the landfill site.

Please queue up at the lights until you get a green light. Once the light is green, go through the main gates (take care of the speed bump) and turn left before the weighbridge (ignore the wooden building and car park by the weighbridge – this is the landfill site operator’s offices).

Please note there is a 10mph speed limit on the site. There is a speed check sign sited by the gate.

You’ll see a big white sign on the bank with Carymoor on it and then green arrows with ‘Carymoor’ marked on them to direct you.

Keep going up over the hill, past a large compost operation on your left, and at the bottom of the hill you’ll see the centre and the car park on the left hand side. The centre is a yellow, timber frame building.
