Join us to celebrate Handel’s musical legacy with an opera inspired by the alleged adventures of Giacomo Girolomo Casanova (1725-1798) and given new life in a libretto by Stephen Pettitt. With music by Handel, Vivaldi & their contemporaries arranged by Julian Perkins, David Wilson-Johnson as ‘Old Casanova’ narrates the scenes – his early seduction by a young woman, his meetings with the rich and influential, his escape from a notorious Venetian prison – and the touching tale of what was, perhaps, his one true love affair. Was he unlucky in love, after all? If Handel had known of Casanova he would surely have written an opera!

William Towers is ‘Young Casanova’ and other characters in the story will be sung by Augusta Hebbert, Anna Starushkevych and Andrew Davies. Julian Perkins directs Sounds Baroque.

More information about this event

Coram

Founded in 1739, Coram is the UK’s first children’s charity. Since then, Coram has been helping to transform the lives of some of the most vulnerable children in our local communities. We give children the chance of a better, brighter future. We’re still based on the same historic site.

In our earliest years Coram helped children left abandoned on the streets of London. Our patrons included the artist Hogarth and the composer Handel, whilst Charles Dickens also based books and characters on our work.

The challenges children face today are far more diverse than in the days of Handel or Dickens. So we now help children in many different ways – right across the UK.  We help children to feel safe and loved; we help children to lead healthier lives; we support their education and learning; we protect their legal rights when these are in danger of being ignored; and we strengthen families to help children thrive.

Coram Adoption is the UK’s most-successful adoption service. We give children the chance of a safe, stable and permanent home with new loving parents.

Coram Voice provides invaluable support to children in care so they have someone to turn to, fighting their corner, whenever they need help.

Coram Creative Therapy helps children suffering with speech or communication problems and who are at serious risk of falling behind in their learning.

Coram Life Education is the UK’s largest school-based healthy living programme. It reaches over 700,000 primary school-aged children in thousands of schools nationwide.

Coram Children’s Legal Centre provides free, legal and rights-based, advice, guidance and representation to families and professionals.

CoramBAAF is the leading membership organisation dedicated to improving outcomes for children and young people in care.
