Ageing Well With Sickle Cell (AWWSC) Focus Group 1

Thursday, September 11, 2025

What you need to know

In South-East London we treat one third ,approximately 5000, of the sickle cell disorder (SCD) patients in the UK, a condition most common in people with an African or Caribbean family heritage.

King's College NHS Trust have an emerging cohort of older adult patients living with sickle cell disorder accessing health services, however, average life expectancy for these patients in the UK is still over 20 years shorter compared to the general population and quality of life is severely hampered due to associated illnesses with this condition, leading to strokes, kidney failure, heart failure and joint damage, among others.

Join us for the first focus group hosted by the Sickle Cell Society on Thursday 11th September 2025 at 5pm and share your thoughts and opinions on the following themes:-

  • Care with Compassion ( with a focus on staff education and its affect on the mental health of patients)
