Ageing Well With Sickle Cell (AWWSC) Launch Event

Wednesday, January 15, 2025
Robin Murray Lecture Theatre, London, United Kingdom

What you need to know

In South-East London we treat one third ,approximately 5000, of the sickle cell disorder (SCD) patients in the UK, a condition most common in people with an African or Caribbean family heritage.

King's College NHS Trust have an emerging cohort of older adult patients living with sickle cell disorder accessing health services, however, average life expectancy for these patients in the UK is still over 20 years shorter compared to the general population and quality of life is severely hampered due to associated illnesses with this condition, leading to strokes, kidney failure, heart failure and joint damage, among others.

Together with King's Charity and the Sickle Cell Society, King's Health Partners are launching a project to co-design a pathway that identifies and addresses what matters most to people living with sickle cell disorder. The project aims to identify and understand their concerns to improve their physical, mental, social and emotional health, and support them and their loved ones to plan for their futures.

Join us for the official launch of the Ageing Well With Sickle Cell (AWWSC) Project on 15th January 2025 at 5pm.

  • Learn from experts specialising in sickle cell care
  • Connect with peers and leaders with an interest in fighting against sickle cell disorder
  • Have the opportunity to share your thoughts and experiences
