Igniting a Reading Culture in KS3
Throughout the programme, participants will explore Reading for Pleasure pedagogy (also known as reading volition), adolescent literacy research and leadership strategies to develop and sustain a strong reading culture across their secondary school.
Participants will attend five sessions and complete gap tasks between sessions. Those who commit will be expected to attend all sessions.
Programme Aims:
- Understand the research underpinning adolescent reading engagement and Reading Volition;
- Broaden knowledge of contemporary and diverse Young Adult literature;
- Develop strategies to promote independent reading across Key Stages 3 and 4;
- Build a whole-school reading culture that supports disciplinary literacy and student engagement;
- Develop leadership approaches to implement and sustain literacy improvement;
- Share best practice and collaborate with other secondary schools.
