Session 1: Tuesday 22nd September 2026
9am - 3pm at The Regatta
Session 1 During this full-day session, participants will:
• explore the key features of effective reading leadership and whole-school reading practice
• strengthen subject knowledge around fluency, comprehension and reading for pleasure
• consider what makes a progressive and inclusive reading curriculum
• reflect on strengths and areas for development within their own school
• use practical self-evaluation tools to identify priorities for improvement
• begin to plan strategic next steps linked to their individual school context The session will provide opportunities for professional discussion, reflection and collaborative thinking, enabling leaders to evaluate current provision and identify meaningful areas for development. GAP TASK
Session 2: Tuesday 3rd November 2027
9am - 12pm - Online
This follow-up online session will support participants in refining and implementing their strategic priorities. Leaders will:
• revisit and reflect on progress since Session 1
• explore approaches to developing staff expertise and improving consistency in practice
• consider effective implementation and sustainable school improvement
• discuss common challenges in leading reading and share effective approaches
• refine action planning and next steps for ongoing development
By the end of the programme, participants will have a clearer understanding of how to lead reading strategically and effectively, ensuring provision is evidence-informed, inclusive and responsive to the needs of their pupils and school community.
