Reading Fluency: The Bridge to Comprehension (Cohort 2)

All sessions will be held at The Regatta

Session 1: Monday 18th January 2027 (1pm - 4pm)

• Understand reading fluency and its link to comprehension.

• Recognise signs of dysfluent reading in KS2.

• Explore text choice and pitch for fluency development.

• Develop effective approaches to assessing and improving fluency.

Session 2: Thursday 25th February 2027 (1pm - 4pm)

• Understand the role of automaticity and prosody in fluent reading.

• Explore how repeated reading strengthens fluency in KS2.

• Discover how prosody supports reading comprehension.

• Learn practical strategies for teaching fluency effectively.

Session 3: Thursday 25th March 2027 (9am - 12pm)

• Understand which vocabulary to focus on in reading lessons.

• Use fluency strategies to strengthen vocabulary and comprehension.

• Explore dialogic approaches to developing comprehension.

• Discover effective strategies to deepen pupils’ understanding of texts.

Session 4: Thursday 29th April 2027 (9am - 12pm)

Session 5: Thursday 10th June 2027 (9am - 12pm)

Session 6: Tuesday 6th July 2027 (9am - 12pm)
