What you need to know

Course availability 
Open to all. Places are limited to 4 only and are on a first come, first served basis. 

Target group 

NHS staff who require help, advice and support to improve their database searching skills and knowledge when undertaking a literature review. 

Overall aim 

The aim of this workshop is to introduce you to advanced literature searching skills and direct you towards the best health-based resources.  

Key areas covered in the workshop will include: 

  • Planning and designing an effective search strategy
  • Finding healthcare literature using the Knowledge Hub
  • Identifying specialist healthcare databases and their contents
  • Effective use of search techniques e.g. phrase searching, truncation 
  • Locating and accessing full text articles

Preparatory task

An OpenAthens login will be necessary for hands-on element. To register for an account go to: https://openathens.nice.org.uk/ We recommend registering at least two days prior to the workshop.

Delivery 

This 1.5 hrs session will be delivered in-person in at Library Training room, Library, Education Centre at QEH
