What you need to know

Target Audience:

Aimed at all nurses and midwives who work at or affiliated with Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust ONLY. All overseas nurses are encouraged to attend this session.

Purpose:

In this 90 minutes session, your Knowledge and Library Specialist will guide you through the NHS Knowledge & Library Hub and other essential online resources (see below). You'll learn how to navigate these tools efficiently and use them to find high quality evidence-based articles, ebooks, databases, guidelines etc to support your work in patient care, service improvements, teaching, clinical audit or CPD. Whether you're a newly qualified or a seasoned professional, this course is designed for nurses and midwives looking to enhance their research abilities. Contents:

  • Planning and designing an effective search strategy
  • Effective use of search techniques e.g. phrase searching, truncation 
  • Finding healthcare literature using the NHS Knowledge  and Library Hub platform
  • Identifying specialist resources e.g. Royal Marsden Manual Online, BMJ Best Practice, MAG Online Library BrowZine Journal, Oxford Medicine Online, Kortex, etc.)
  • Locating, accessing or requesting full text articles via library services
  • Quick quiz (time permitting)
