Protective Security Special Interest Group Built Environment Webinar: Security Overlay for the RIBA Plan of Work
Join Jonathan Eddery CSyP, CSMP, CTSP, MSyI, SABRE, SQSS & David Buston CSyP, FSyI, MAPM, SABRE SQSS as they discuss the Security Overlay for the RIBA Plan of Work developed in association with the NPSA in the aim of raising awareness of this guidance and expanding members' understanding of its uses and limitations.
Within this session, Jonathan and David will cover the following:
1. Describe the Plan of Work process and the various security activities undertaken by the client, security design consultant, and contractor at each applicable RIBA design stage.
2. Explain the practical application of the security activities at each design stage and some of the limitations of the early design in conducting a security risk assessment.
3. Walk through a case study on a major project where the security overlay was applied.
4. Explain some of the challenges associated with the late arrival of the security design consultant on a project.
5. Field questions from the audience to share knowledge and experience
About Our Speakers:
Jonathan Eddery CSyP, CSMP, CTSP, MSyI, SABRE, SQSS - Jonathan is a Chartered Security Professional specializing in Security Risk Management and Threat Assessments. With a background as a professional athlete and police officer, he currently leads security projects supporting the Department for Transport's guidance on Aviation Security in Airport Development (ASIAD) and Security in the Design of Stations (SIDOS).
A 2023 OSPA Outstanding Security Consultant award winner and 2024 finalist, Jonathan has 24 years of experience across sectors like Aviation, Retail, and Construction. He delivers projects using Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) and has conducted Security Needs Assessments (SNA) and Vehicle Dynamic Assessments (VDA).
Currently consulting for seven major airports in the UK and internationally, Jonathan has been with AtkinsRéalis for two years. His qualifications include CSyP, MSyI, CSMP, CTSP, and SABRE assessor (SQSS). He is co-chair of the Protective Security Special Interest Group and is close to finalizing his certification on the Register of Security Engineers and Specialists (RSES).
David Buston CSyP, FSyI, MAPM, SABRE SQSS - David is a highly experienced Chartered security and resilience professional, specialising in Counter Terrorism, Security Risk Management, and Emergency Planning. With 40 years of security-related experience, including 22 years serving with the Royal Marines Commandos and UK Special Forces and 18 years in commercial. He brings extensive cross-sector knowledge from managing and delivering major development projects, including critical national infrastructure in the UK and major overseas design and build projects across multiple industries.
Since joining TT in 2022, David has demonstrated high competency in strategic security planning, security risk assessment, operational security management, and security system design. His expertise spans project management, thorugh concept, scheme, and detailed design states, as well as design assurance during construction and handover.
David is also adept at delivering business continuity and crisis management exercises worldwide and has managed world-class physical security penetration testing for UK Critical National Infrastructure sites. He is a Fellow member of the Security Institute, a SABRE Assessor and Professional (SQSS), and is co-Chair for the Protective Security Special Interest Group for the built environment group.
