What you need to know

RSDA 6205 Introduction to Python

This course takes 9 hours, split over 3 workshops (3 hours each) 

Dates: 14, 21 and 28 November (10.00 - 13.00) 

Location: In person. JURA lab, Level 4, University Library


This course is an introduction to simple programming in Python for non-programmers. The course which will enable you to write simple programs to manipulate and analyse data. By the end you will be able to:

  • Understand what a computer program is
  • use the IDLE Shell and Editor windows
  • write a simple print script
  • run a Python script from the command prompt
  • include comments in Python scripts
  • assign values to variables Use arithmetic operators in Python
  • use If statements in Python
  • use For and While Loops in Python
  • manipulate text using Python Open
  • save text based files within a Python script

Please bring a laptop with Python already set up with you to this course.
